Rings

The rings were handmade by our soccer teammate and friend, Sara Steenbergh. They are both made of olive oil (Italian) and aboyna burl (Filipino). They're not identical, but rather compliments to one another with the opposite wood in the center.

Additional rings worn are family heirlooms passed down by to us. Danielle's wearing rings from her great grandma and grandma. Rob's is his dad's original wedding ring from 1982.

Invites

Designed with graphic designer, Matt King,Danielle's friend since high school. Elements are based on stylistic components found in Detroit. The city's motto is also incorporated into the design, speramus meliora; resurget cineribus, means we hope for better things; it will rise from the ashes.

Danielle and Robert, hand cut and printed each invite and envelope at Signal Return.

Venue Location

Historic Fort Wayne has a soccer field where Robert and Danielle play. Since 2012, they continue to be part of a co-ed soccer league where teams are based on Detroit neighborhoods.

Beer & Cocktails

Your local, favorite, brewer Rob will brew all of the beers for the wedding. Signature cocktails will be created from family recipes, and will be served on draft for the special day. Rob will concoct the cocktails, too.

Food

The food is catered by our friends and neighbors of Sarap Detroit. The food will celebrate Filipino and Italian traditions, but also locally grown Michigan produce.

Pies! Cookies!

The pies and cookies served at the wedding are from local bakery, Sister Pie. We are longtime fans of Sister Pie. The owner is dually connected to us. She grew up in the same town as Robert, and she's connected to the Sisters of Mercy through her time at Mercy High School.

Filipino Wedding Traditions

In Filipino wedding traditions, there are a series of special gifts presented to the couple as hopes and promises for their marriage: coins, veil, and cord.

Coins, arras, represent the couple's commitment to mutually contribute to their relationships. Coins used for this wedding are from both heirlooms from Danielle and Rob's grandparents.

The veil symbolizes the couple "being clothed as one" in unity. The cord bonds the two together as one. The veil and cord used for this wedding are from Danielle's parents' wedding

Wedding Dress

The fabric of Danielle's wedding dress comes from her mom's 1986 wedding dress. Danielle's friend, talented fabric artist, puppeteer, and former co-worker at Matrix Theatre Co. (where Danielle served for her volunteer year), Megan Harris re-imagined the dress. The colorful details were painted and beaded by hand.

Barongs

A barong is traditional formal wear for men in the Philippines. It is made out of pineapple thread. On a recent trip to the Philippines, Danielle's mom brought back the barongs the men are wearing for the wedding.
